Monico Atienza Alternative Studies Festival

Monico Atienza Alternative Studies Festival Online Enlistment

The Monico Atienza Alternative Studies Festival is a project initiated by different national democratic mass organizations such as Alay Sining, Anakbayan, League of Filipino Students, Center for Nationalist Studies, and Student Christian Movement on December 2010. It aims to provide students with the necessary theoretical foundations in pursuing alternative studies on social realities. Ultimately, it hopes to motivate them to take action and be part of the struggle for genuine social change. The educational festival intends to respond to the challenge of being the Second Propaganda Movement tracing back to the propaganda movement led by Gat Jose Rizal. It seeks to continue the great tradition of iskolars ng bayan during the 1960s when the Student Cultural Association in UP (SCAUP) launched study circles to learn the teachings of the great philosophers such as Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong. A movement that led to formation of the most-comprehensive youth organization, Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth) which aims to continue a new type of revolution tracing back from the Andres Bonifacio’s Katipunan. The activity also aims to commemorate Prof. Monico Atienza, former President of SCAUP and Secretary-General of Kabataang Makabayan during the First Quarter Storm, and his contribution to the youth and revolutionary movement. The organizers hope that the youth will be inspired by the life of Prof. Atienza as a youth leader, an activist, a writer, a professor, and a revolutionary. The Monico Atienza Alternative Studies Festival is held quarterly. Past festivals were held in cooperation with the Kabataan Partylist, the UP Diliman University Student Council, the College of Arts and Letters Student Council, and the College of Mass Communication Student Council.
